One of many reasons the Harry Potter series contains the Biblical Narrative
Many people frown upon those(like me) who try and make known some sort of the Gospel Narrative in the story of Harry Potter.
This is just one of many reasons I use to state my case.
In the beginning of Harry Potter’s life, we see Lilly Potter, his mother, give her life as a substitutionary sacrifice for her son to the curse of Lord Voldemort. Throughout the course of the books, Voldemort is unable to kill Harry Potter. When Lilly died, something protected Harry from Voldemort. It was Love…something Voldemort did not have. That same Love would protect Harry against Voldemort throughout the books, despite many solid attempts at Harry’s life.
As the Story progresses, Harry is revealed things about his past and present that were previously unknown to Him. In a way he was “being made new.”
At the end of the story, Harry finds out something most interesting and yet disturbing. When Lilly’s sunstitutionary death had obliterated voldemort’s physical body and much of his power, the remaining part of Voldemort’s soul latched itself on to the only living thing present, baby Harry. Though he was unaware of it happening, a part of Voldemort lives inside Harry. Harry finds out that the only way to kill voldemort is to let voldemort kill him. What voldemort doesn’t know is that he would only be killing the part of himself within Harry. Harry himself lives on and later, after voldemorts destruction, is made whole living in a new world without voldemort.
In the same way, the Bible makes clear that if we’re a Christian, we’re already truly changed - but not yet totally changed. Each of us is a genuinely new creature, but we’re not yet a totally new creature. Though we are already fundamentally new, we’re not yet completely new. We still struggle with sin because sin has not yet been destroyed in our lives, though it has been dethroned. Sin remains in us, though it no longer reigns in us.
When Jesus returns, we’ll finally be totally and absolutely changed. We’ll live in God’s New world enjoying what is most enjoyable - God himself.
